Fall & Winter Auditions August 24 & 26

Auditions for “Edgar Allan Poe” and “A Christmas Carol” will be held Monday and Wednesday, August 24 and 26 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the Playhouse.

“Edgar Allen Poe” auditions are open to ages 13 to mid-twenties. The show runs the last two weekends in October.

“A Christmas Carol” auditions are open to ages 6 through mid-20s. The show runs in early December; see details below.

Coming this Fall: The Playhouse-in-the-Park presents School Day performances of "Edgar Allen Poe" in October at the Playhouse. This dramatic compilation of Poe favorites is sure to entertain ages 13 and older with humor and horror! Adapted for the stage by Playhouse alumni Jonathan Olensky.

Group School Show performance dates are October 22, 23, 29, and 30 at 9:00 a.m., 10:15 a.m., and 11:30 a.m. at the Playhouse. Student tickets are $8; teachers admitted free. To make reservations for your class, call the Playhouse at 251-422-0079. 

 

Public shows will be on October 23, 24, 30, and 31 at the Playhouse. All public shows are at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors.  Call 251-602-0630 for reservations.

Coming in December: The Playhouse-in-the-Park will present its original musical, "A Christmas Carol," at the Saenger Theatre in downtown Mobile at 6 Joachim Street.

All ages will enjoy this magical show set in Victorian-age England during the Christmas season. The production is filled with music, dancing, and colorful characters such as Ebenezer Scrooge, Jacob Marley, Tiny Tim, the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future; and the fun-loving Fezziwigs!

With a gorgeous set, period costumes, beautiful music, and stupendous young actors and dancers, audiences will be delighted with this Christmas performance!  A cast of 100 local youth from ages 6 and up will fill the stage at the glorious Saenger Theatre for one public showing and four school-day shows.

Group School Show performance dates for grades 1 - 12 are Tuesday and Wednesday, December 8th & 9th at the Saenger Theatre in Downtown Mobile.  There are two shows each day at 9:00 and 11:15 a.m.  Tickets for students are $8 and teachers are admitted free.  CALL 251-422-0079 FOR SCHOOL SHOW RESERVATIONS!

 

There will be one public show at the Saenger on Wednesday, December 9th at 7:30 PM.  Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors. Call 251-602-0630 in early November for reservations.

The Playhouse in the Park

The Playhouse in the Park has been training young people in theatre arts since 1961.  Over the years, our program has grown to include four large productions a year; a comprehensive training program of drama, dance, vocal, piano, guitar, and scenic art classes; and an elaborate, full-scale puppet theatre.  At the Playhouse-in-the-Park, there is something for everyone of all ages.

The Playhouse In The Park is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated to help provide the highest quality of instruction and performances for the youth of our area.

The Tree of Generosity


 
The Playhouse-in-the-Park is proud to announce the establishment of the Tree of Generosity. This giving program will serve as a lasting tribute and measure of support for all who have been touched by the Playhouse in the Park through the years.  Anyone can purchase a "leaf" for the Tree in honor or memory of someone they love. The Tree of Generosity sculpture is the work of David Hebert, owner of Mobile City Metals, a full service, creative company based in Mobile, Alabama. David creates both functional and creative art pieces with repurposed metals. The design is a collaborative effort between the artist and Pamela and Danny Mollise. The sculpture is featured in the lobby of the Playhouse in the Park, located on Museum Drive in Langan Park, Mobile Alabama.

Playhouse Repertory Training Program

The Playhouse-in-the-Park training program (PRT) is designed to mold young actors in a guided, dynamic, studio-style program that is tailored to the needs of each individual student.  Simultaneously, PRT offers an open-enrollment program in acting, and music (piano,  guitar, and voice) which encourages exploration while creating the opportunity to see the world through the diverse lens of the performing arts.  Call 251-422-5434 for details.


Playhouse-in-the-Park Acting Classes

Our program has grown to include five large productions a year; a comprehensive training program of drama, vocal, piano, guitar, individual voice lessons, scenic art classes, and an elaborate, full-scale puppet theatre.  Quarterly classes in acting and musical theatre are taught by Playhouse Managing Director Danny Mollise.  Stage I Acting Classes for ages 6 - 11 are $145.00 per 10-week quarter, and Musical Theater for ages 12 - 19 are $195.00 per 10-week quarter.  Classes are offered in three 10-week quarters (September - December, January - March, and March - May).  Call 251-602-0630 or visit www.playhouseinthepark.org for complete details.  Music lessons offered at the Playhouse are Guitar - Call Danny Mollise at (251) 602-0630; Piano - Call Scott Jolly at (251) 422-2178; Individual Voice Lessons – call (251) 602-0630.  At the Playhouse-in-the-Park there is something for all ages!
